Does anyone have an iron issue?

I've had low iron on and off since I was diagnosed with Itp 12 years ago. Does anyone else have low iron just got a call from my Drs office my iron saturation is 8. was just curious if it has anything to do with itp

It could have something to do with ITP if there is bleeding; such as heavy periods or blood in the gastrointestinal area. If no bleeding is present, then they should look at possible Hemolytic Anemia. That can be determined with a blood test called a Coombs test. There are other types of anemia as well that you could be tested for.

Are they going to do anything about it?

Sorry to hear you're dealing with iron issues. I've been on iron supplements for years, though it's probably a result of poor intestinal absorption and not ITP in my case (I have a number of vitamin and mineral deficiencies). My docs were hoping the iron and other supplements would increase my platelet count but that didn't happen. Definitely follow Sandi's suggestions about followup discussions/testing with your treatment team.

I'll ask about that they never really tried to find the cause there's some months it's fine and others not I know I've been tested for probably everything under the sun over the years and have never found anything else

I always had low iron until the menopause. It's pretty normal for women. When I was diagnosed with ITP my Hb was fine but when ferritin was tested it was very low. I haven't had it tested for years so have no idea what it is now. Hb is still just about okay now though.
