Look at my leg. Both are covered in bruises and as far as I know, counts are normal. I'm hoping this will lessen the panic mode for some of you when bruises appear.

The worst leg bruises I ever saw were on a friend who worked as a cashier. She looked like she got pummeled on a daily basis. Massive, vivid bruises all over her legs, and even bruises on top of bruises. She looked like she was abused, tortured, and had a major bleeding or clotting disorder. But everything about her blood work was normal: she was completely healthy. She told me that the other cashiers she worked with all had similar bruising. Go figure, right?

I hope you're not that colorful, Sandi.

Ow - I'm sorry! I am so paranoid about falling again after breaking my foot last October it isn't funny. Do you need stitches?

I don't think I needed stitches. I've fallen twice this week, have no idea why. The first time, I stood up and my leg was completely numb. No pins and needles, just numb. I took a step and ,y leg wasn't there....fell flat on the floor. The second time I was going down three deck steps and was on the ground in seconds. Have no idea what happened. Luckily, nothing broke. I found out from my GP that I do have osteopenia. She said she is surprised that it's not worse than it is given the steroids I've been on for years.

The worst bruise I've ever had was a huge black bruise on my thigh. It was as large as a baseball and had black fingers going down. It was as black as a rotten banana. My counts were 8k then.

MrsB - that's not too bad for low counts! How are they this week?

Sandi please hold on to banisters - don't want a broken hip!

MrsB - you can join the Colorful Club too.

The deep purple bruise on my side is going away now - it was just deep purple, not other color in that bruise at all.

Sandi, it's a lot darker blue than the picture suggests but something wrong with camera colour (or more likely the camera user!!) . No idea on count it is repeated tomorrow so will update then. Hope you are OK. Anne

Yeah, cameras don't always pick up the true saturation. Mine are darker than the picture too. All of my bruises are due to dog paws. At least I have an explanation.

Impressive. I have some large ones on my legs at the moment (but I don't feel like posting photos). A yoga therapist I'm seeing for my shoulder/neck problems asked me if I had Ehlers-Danlos syndrome after seeing my hyperflexible joints and such, Apparently such connective tissue disorders include bruising as a feature. In other words, bruising happens for all sorts of reasons, not just ITP.

I recently developed a rash (extremely itchy). After a few days I noticed a bruise. By time I got the right treatment I had 3 bruises the size of the palm of my hand.

Sandi least you have a good reason for bruising. I did mine to myself!

The one with the blood draw got much worse. It got huge and looked like the blood was dripping underneath the skin. Weird!

Did you get yours from scratching?

Yeppers got my bruising from scratching. I had a patient with scabies and turns out it is very contagious. The itch will drive you insane.

Yeppers an occupational hazard they do not tell you about in nursing school! After 2 treatments the itching is gone and bruises are healed!

Although I am so paranoid now that if a spot appears and I get itchy somewhere I put the treatment cream on it. lol

Howdy! Long time no chat. I did post a month or so ago saying hi to old faces and "remember me?" and all that but for some reason my post disappeared.

I've been getting a lot of bruises lately, the pic below with lots is from when I was moving to a new house, I probably just hit my legs a lot without noticing while carrying boxes and such so I didn't think anything of it. The other two pics with the large bruise is a completely mystery, No idea what caused those but I wonder if it's from doing weights at the gym. That part of my leg doesn't come into contact with anything so it's not from impact but I wondered if somehow the strain on my muscles etc was causing it. I've had a few post gym ones show up, mostly on my legs but sometimes my arms as well. I don't get my counts done very often any more because they always seem stable around 70-80k. Given the particularly large mystery bruise I figured I'd best get a count done just in case but it came back at 86k though so that's a good thing at least.

After that I just shrugged it off. Got another one on my other leg today, not as large but painful and lumpy, it's to the side and slightly towards the back of my knee where I'm sure I would have noticed if I'd hit it at all. Almost certain I haven't walked into anything so it's another mystery. It got me to thinking.. if I'm getting these mystery bruises that don't seem to be caused by impacting on anything (nor restrictive clothing or anything else I can think of) should I be worried about what might happen if I whatever causes them were to happen in say... my head? I feel stupid for even thinking about it given my "high" count but the question is lingering in the back of my mind now... should I be worrying?

(Please excuse the horrible fat-leg pics)

Tal! Well hello! It's been years....how are you? I've thought about you often over the years. :)

I don't know that you should worry, but you might want to mention the bruises (and show pics) at your next Dr. appointment.
