White cell count was created by wandphollis@bigpond.com
I would like to know if anyone has a problem with white cell count when their Platelets go up. I have just had my bloods done again, my platelets are now over 100. I have looked at all my other blood test and it seems to follow a patten. When my Platelets are 70 all other blood results are fine.

There can be problems with white cells and platelets see-sawing. What are your white cell counts?

Have you been on any treatments?

My white cell count is at 13, Neutrophils are 10. it only seems to happen when Platelet level goes up. My Doctor hasn't put me on any medication and I don't take any medications on a regular basis. The Specialist has suggested for me to have my Spleen out if this continues, I am very reluctant to agree with him and will get a second opinion. It's really hard to get answers and I'm so pleased I have found this support group.Thank you Sandi

You definitely need a second opinion. Why would the doctor suggest having your spleen out if there is no diagnosed reason for it?

I will get another opinion that's for sure. This all started with a rash all over my body, I tried the usual Chemist over the counter stuff, thought I had an allergy to something. Went to the GP and she had no idea what it was, the the GP put me on Panafcortelone and I demanded a blood test. That is how I found out my Platelets were down, that is almost 12 months ago.

Your counts are safe and fine for daily living. Monitoring is the best way to go for now.

Hi,

Sandi, mentioned that you can get white and platlet counts see sawing. I can confirm that is the see saw I am on.

I started with platelets, then switched to really dangerously low neutrophils. And I was diagnosed with intermittent neutropenia, which happens between bouts of low platelets. I can offer no explanation other than, I have had it / continue to get it.

The immune neutropenia means I pick up infections really quick, when I am low on white cells just a swim in a pool sets off ear infections that I end up on antibiotics for - it happened so often I give up swimming as I know I am more than likely to end up on antibiotics! I have been advised in the past to avoid travel and coming into contact with people who are ill, when I had hardly any neutrophils left. All of this was only diagnosed after I had bone marrow biopsies, lymph node biopsies, and scans of most of my upper body and viral screens, when they could find no other reason they settled on ITP and Immune Neutropenia on the basis of exclusion.

They could've looked for antibodies. When I had neutropenia they sent blood off, I think it was to Bristol but not sure, to look for neutrophil antibodies which they found.
