  • I'm 31 years old and a mom to two awesome little boys, I was diagnosed with itp when I was 17 years old. With no treatment my counts are 0-5 I am currently on nplate and I had a splenectomy in 2004

I work out a lot lately, my platelets hit 14 on nplate and my dr told me don't you dare. I have a personal trainer who kicks my butt just curious of everyone's guidelines when working out

Hi kelirae,

How's your little one doing??

I tend to go on symptoms and counts. With a count below 30 I avoid workouts with weights or increased pressure. However, I kept doing aerobic exercise regardless as long as it was "safe" eg running, cycling, swimming, crosstrainer etc. I'd consider them safe because at the gym I'd be making sure I wasn't about to fall off anything. And if I went for a run outside I'd take a phone & make sure hubby knew my route just in case.

Nobody told me that was the "rule" - I just decided what I did & didn't feel comfortable with and went with it. Does your personal trainer know about your itp? Maybe he/she could adapt your workout to decrease inter-cranial pressure, muscle tears etc. when you have low counts?

Lowest count 1. Highest count 207 (ivig) Indium scan showed predominantly splenic destruction. No meds currently, just seeing how things go.
