Looking for an ITP Dr. around the Chicago area

We have a 15 year old daughter who was diagnosed with ITP in Sept. 2014. Fatigue is a major problem for her and it often prevents her from attending school, or leaving the house. Her Hematologist insists that the fatigue is psychosocial related and not a symptom of ITP. (I agree that she is likely suffering from depression on top of the ITP). Her platelet count is currently 6 and has been below 30 for 2 months. In addition she is seeing a Rheumatologist for joint pain, and a neurologist for severe headaches. We are frustrated because the Hematologist who she sees almost weekly, refuses to write a note for school indicating that her absences are ITP related. Our daughter is an honor student who wants to go back to school. We need a Dr. who will look at her as an individual patient with specific symptoms and side effects, not lump her in with "typical ITP patients don't suffer this kind of fatigue", (those are the doctors words, not mine)
We are about an hour away from Chicago. Any suggestions for an ITP specialist?
Thank you

My suggestion would be to question the Rheumatologist for answers and possible help. This could be more than ITP. Has your daughter ever been tested for APS?

Many Hematologists are acknowledging that fatigue can be associated with ITP, but the only way to possibly fix that is by getting counts up.

I had an entire post written out an it was eaten!!!

My 18 yo daughters major symptom with her ITP is fatigue, overwhelming and all encompassing. It started gradually and in the summer and we thought it was because she was staying up too late. To be honest I was getting quite frustrated with her. Her counts had been in the 40 -50 range for about a year. When she went for her next counts they were in a freefall and ended up at like 7,000. She was treated with IVIG because her hemoglobin had dropped due to heavy periods. It was after the treatment that I realized what a different kid she was when her counts are higher.
Her count did not stay up after the IVIG, and this winter they were very low (<5 for a couple of months). She really struggled with fatigue and headaches. She has a learning disability and school does not come easy to her, and how she held it together and kept her grades up is beyond me.She would really struggle any time it was a full 5 day school week to get through it. We were acknowledging that she would probably need to be treated based on her level of fatigue alone, but were trying to hold off until a school break. Then she had bleeding symptoms and needed to be treated and once again with her counts up I am seeing a different kid.

Her hematologist is very attuned to fatigue being a part of ITP. When we were watchful waiting he always asked her if fatigue kept her from doing what she needed or liked to do. It is more from the autoimmune syndrome then the low platelets themselves. And the school nurses have been supportive to her, she has had great attendance up until this year (her senior year). I have spoken to them also because I did not want to get close to graduation and have attendance issues but they have been very helpful.
