Petechia

Petechia was created by Hernas
I had cbc yesterday morning and platelet count was 231,000. However, in mid-afternoon, i had petechia on both legs and a tiny bruise next to petechia on left leg. Called hematologist and couldn't understand why. I'm not bleeding and no new petechia as of today. Taking 27.5 mg of prednisone and tapering 2.5 mg every week. Has anyone had petechia with a 200,000+ platelet count?
Thanks in advance.

Is it all over or just in patches? I get patches of petechiae that one dermatologist called capillaritis some time ago. I don't really know if it is that but it seemingly has nothing to do with my count. If it's not that and is a generalised petechiae then I have no idea.

A few small patches; especially on bottom side of left leg. It's weird. No active bleeding which is good. i'll just keep moving forward and take my prednisone until my next cbc, which is next Tuesday.
Thanks for your response, Ann.

I regularly see petechiae on my legs. Just recently I found a number on my right calf after a plane flight. This happens almost regardless of counts or other symptoms, though I've not been as high as the 250s for more than a decade now. And none of my docs ever mentioned capillaritis. They just told me to ignore it unless it becomes severe or is accompanied by bleeding.
Hope you can keep moving forward.

Thanks for the info, Aoi. I'll just wait for my next blood draw next week. Have a good day and a good holiday on Sunday.

Actually I work at a hospital and regularly see patients' legs as they lie down and have noticed that as people age, their legs become more and more of a mess! LOL... with blotches, spots and patches that look like petechiae. I think we look too hard at our skin and notice what others never bother about.

I agree! I've had petechiae with higher counts and just chalk it up to a flukey incident. Sometimes if you cut the circulation a bit, petechiae can appear. Sitting cross-legged, sleeping on your arm, etc....can sometimes cause it.

Same experience here. I was sure my platelets were up, but then looked at my legs and so many more of those horrid red dots on my very white legs that I almost had an all out anxiety attack. When for my blood test and platelets were up to 120,000. Nurse Practitioner had no explanation for why I have more "symptoms" now then when the numbers were lower. I'll take the increased platelets and wear pants any day! I guess it is just another one of those unexplainable ITP things. Oh joy.

People without ITP get petechiae too. My husband once sneezed so hard that he had nasty petechiae around his eyes. It actually looked worse than anything I've ever had.
