Home again after 6 days in hospital with appendicitis!
What a saga - we ITPers are not straight forward patients are we??
Thought I was coming down with gastro, spend Friday in local rural community hospital being monitored, flown to city, spent night in emergency, scan confirmed appendix. BUT platelets had dropped to 11 . . . so IVIG arranged to get levels up for surgery.
"How long have you had ITP?? Why haven't you had your spleen out?" !!!
2 days of infusion etc, (platelets up up to 244 & climbing) then no beds available in theatre . . . operation late Monday night. Key hole surgery, inflamed appendix, no complications. But AWFUL headache from IVIG! Very busy, noisy hospital - I couldn't wait to get out of there!
"Make sure you discuss a 'permanant' solution to your ITP with your specialist so this doesn't happen again" !
We are shearing sheep on our farm this week & I usually help feed 6 men & shift mobs between paddocks so felt like I had let the team down!! Of all times to happen, it's ridiculous! Poor Greg has been very concerned about me, traveling to the city & worrying about not being in the shed grading our wool sample.
Now for the healing - I am very fortunate to be living near the sea, have a nice garden & wonderful family & friends for physical, emotional & spiritual support. And hopefully the IVIG treatment will last as long as previously when my counts stayed up for several months.

Oh MJ! I'm sorry to hear it! I'm glad you're okay.

Better get to work on that permanent solution! :P

Would be funny if they weren't so serious!

However, Greg thinks we're on a winner & are going to make medical history. He's hoping the removal of my appendix will cure all & the theory about the spleen has been wrong all along!!! :silly:

I tell you, after several days of hospital dealings one starts to imagine all sorts of things! At least we were able to keep our sense of humour intact.

mj that is unreal - thankfully your appendix didn't burst while waiting for your count to increase! So glad all is well and you are back home!

You did ask them what that permanent solution was didn't you ;)

So glad you are ok and home, the joys of living in the country.... I have had two surgeries since getting ITP and even with good numbers the hospital in town still insist that I go to Sydney, three hours away.
Take it easy and I know that's not easy when it's shearing time xx

There is no practice run in life.

Oh, you guys are a hoot! I feel so much better knowing you are all here.

All good except for the fact the antibiotics wiped out all the goodies as well as the baddies, so I am taking double dose of probiotics to try to balance things out. Nobody says anything about that side effect!
Tummy swelling going down - just as well otherwise I would have to buy a new dress for a wedding we are attending next weekend.

Glad to hear it went well with no real complications. Glad to hear they got your counts up! Hope you enjoy the wedding!

I say you should spread the feeling of needing to relax and heal out for a while. Cooking for 6 men sounds worse than having your appendix out! Least it would be for me hate cooking lol

Ohhhh wedding what you wearing? a T-shirt that say I compromised gave my appendix in exchange for keeping my spleen??
