I just want to check out what your platelet count has to be to fly.Mine is currently 41k and I am due to fly ar the end of March and in May. I am not a bleeder but do bruise and have red dots if they drop low.my lowest was 16 k in October.

I really want to go on holiday!

Pick a number....one size does not fit all.
If you are worried; ask your hematologist about your symptoms and flying.

While I no longer skydive, I've flown across the USA over the past 12 years at 4k, 26k, etc.
No problem.....other than the TSA rigamarole, cramped seats, and screaming children.

I agree with Jack - ask your hematologist.

I'm a frequent flyer. Today's count was 45K, and my next flight is Saturday. We're all different, but I have heard in the past from Drew Provan (ITP expert from the UK) that flying is typically not dangerous with lower counts.

It was hard not to answer this question without a "boy are my arms tired" joke.

I've been flying cross-county recently, and will go again next month. The only hint that maybe my platelets are a bit perturbed by it all is a bit of bruising I get on my shoulder due to carrying a very heavy laptop bag. Then again, I've seen those little spots many times, and nothing else has ever happened. Of course, my experience is mine alone. Good luck with what you decide to do.

Saw my hemo today and my count is 43k .He is supportive of me flying from Australia to the UK.Advised that I need to keep hydrated ,move around etc all things we need to do to avoid DVT.

Very relieved and happy.Mind you I flew to Bali a few weeks ago but is was only a short 5 hour flight.( ha ha Tamar my arms were ok with that!!!)

Admin I have some info fro the UK ITP support group about flying can I add it to this thread ?

cheers
