Head cold medicine was created by PJT
I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of over the counter sinus and cold medicine is ok to take for those of us with ITP?

Thanks,
PJT

You might want to put this down in the Adults With ITP section somewhere - this section is really for questions & suggestions about the forum.

Have you asked your doctor? And have you rinsed your sinuses? I do that and I use Mucinex or generic entex to keep things moving.

I use the neti pot and sea salt with warm water (not hot) to rinse out sinus cavity. Best solution I have found and no medicine needed with the neti pot. The Doctor show even recommends it.

PJT, are you prone to nosebleeds? As far as I know, the main danger to nasal decongestants (especially the Afrin type that really work!) is that they dry out one's nose and make it more likely that you would get a nosebleed--especially if you are blowing your nose. (On the other hand, if you have a nosebleed, the medical folk like to hand you a bottle of Afrin and tell you that it will constrict the blood vessels, reducing the chances of nosebleed.)

I've become paranoid about nosebleeds. Someone posted a couple of months ago something like this: "If you have to choose between death and having your nose packed, take death."

I sympathize, and I've only had to have my nose packed two awful times!

What I'm doing for my current congestion is using my little steam inhaler two or four times a day, using a saline nose spray that has aloe in it, and blowing my nose very, very carefully.

I just heard on the news that one should not rinse the nose with tap water. A few people have died from parasites which attacked the brain that were in tap water. It's best to use distilled water.
