Hi All! I was diagnosed with itp in summer 2009. while in hospital the doctor missed my vein while putting in a cannula. It was actually painful for weeks after. It was very painful and although that was months ago I still get an ache in that exact spot every now and then! I think i am slow to heal because of the itp! does anyone else here have experience of their cuts/sores/wounds taking long to heal?!

I'd say it's more a matter of where my counts were when I was injured and where the injury occurred. If I'm low, then a deep bruise bleeds longer and infaltrates the tissues more, taking a lot longer to go away. I don't notice it if I'm in the 50K or above range.

18 months ago, I hit my shin missing the step into a rental car bus on my way to a business trip and was on the road for 4 days before I really could deal with it. By the time I got home, it had started traveling down to my foot and it hurt for weeks. I still have a funky brown spot that looks dirty from where it pooled in the foot. Like you I had a bad day at the infusion center about 10-12 weeks ago and they missed 3 sticks, once of which went through the vien and gave me a 3 inch beauty of purple, then green, then dirty brown which is finally beginning to fade so it's not noticable.

My brusies take a long time to heal. Even with higher counts.

I had an incident where I fell in church and the platelets were about 1 k. I hit the fron of my foot just above the ankle and it became really swollen and turned black and blue. The bruise took over 4 weeks to go away and the pain even longer. When I have infusions and they miss my veins it takes about 2 weeks for those to fade too.

I was diagnosed in '95 and eventually had splenectomy in '03. No symptoms since then, and platelets all in normal range. But I have residual scarring on my lower calves (brown discoloration) and last week I slipped off the side of a treadmill and got a severe bruise on one leg. Very purple with a blood blister in the center, 'tho it never broke the skin. Very little improvement in a week since, some blood now pooling in instep and bruise stings and throbs even when not touched. Hematologist checked platelets (and WBCs for signs of infection). All WNR. Ankle swollen, skin feels real tight. Not sure if there's anything I should do other than elevate when I can and try to stay off it as much as possible. I really hope this heals sooner than your posts seem to indicate. I feel luckier than most in having nml platelets post splenectomy--just didn't realize legs were still vulnerable.
