Elevated WBC and lower platelet ughhh was created by whatthehwegoingtodowiththiss
I have been on 10mg for a few weeks and the platelets have been great. Last Friday they were lower and WBC was 11 today they are little lower and WBC 12. Still on 10mg..she thinks maybe inflammation or infection somewhere. I have been having problems with my teeth (three root canals in two months, etc.). I am scared and googling non stop. Any help (sandi!!!!) would be greatly appreciated!
So im going to 20mg and root canal retreat tomorrow. UGH

Sorry I mean could lower platelets and that WBC be from dental work or some other insidious cause?

WBC can go up with steroid use. Yours is just a slight bit out of the reference range, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. Mine are always out of range, usually too low.

What were the platelet counts before and after the dental work?

In may before dental work I was on 5mg and 200k. Then it went to 75k so we upped dose stabilized then had another procedure dropped again went back up on steroids. I dropped again bc of my tooth to 45k went higher then stabilized another tooth done dropped again. I just stayed on 10 mg for three weeks right after I had the faulty crown put on. It's been hurting but I refused dental work. Now 100 and need to go up to 20 again. I'm so scared of all this I have stressed myself to no end. On top of that I had my period for two weeks due to fibroids she wants me to start bcp to.

Were you on antibiotics when you had the dental work? I don't know why dental procedures like that would cause a drop. That would be strange.

Stay calm - your counts are still good. Stressing will only make things worse. Your steroids doses are fairly low.

Steroids cause the WBC count to go up, that's normal. Google "steroids and demargination" and you'll see.

Most people find that steroids affect the teeth. One of the reasons we shouldn't take them for too long.

Are you saying that your count was 100 so you upped the steroid dose? That seems very odd. None of your counts have been low enough to treat. Have you thought of a second opinion in order to get off the steroids before they completely wreck your body.

I have seen two hemos and neither has given me an option other than prednisone or spleenectomy. I currently have been getting weekly draws for years and they said NPlate wouldnt change that lifestyle. She said promacta would cause more worry? I did try Winro at one time but the side effects were horrible. I cant have Rituxin because of some virus or something and left with severe anxiety/depression and three little kids.

Sounds like you may have overly-cautious doctors. Weekly draws might be overkill. Counts above 30 are considered safe and are okay. No need to worry above that if you don't have any symptoms.

Maybe you should think about a second opinion? A doctor who is calmer might help you to calm down too. You're okay.
