Doctor questions

Doctor questions was created by Pixtera
Every time I see my hematologist he asks if I have had my daughter's platelets checked. He always acts very concerned about it. (daughter is 15 months old) Our pediatrician is aware of my ITP and never seemed concerned about it with my daughter. She has said that her platelets were good at birth and that it isn't passed through families. I have noticed dd has started getting a lot of bruises on her legs. I am sure it's from her running around but in the back of my mind I still worry. Should I be having her checked? Is her probability of getting it higher because I have it? Thanks for any advice on this situation!

Pixtera - chances are your hematologist is just curious as to how your daughter is doing.

However since your hematologist has put doubt in your mind the best thing to do would be to talk to your pediatrician - get to the nitty gritty with her, tell her your concerns just as you have written above, ask her when/if your daughter should be tested.

As to bruises - any young child, older ones too for that matter, have bruises.

I used to have in my signature this quote:
-Instead of wasting your time worrying about symptoms, just get it checked out. -Nieca Goldberg, MD

Think that fits in your case too - no symptoms but the worry is there so talk to your pediatrician!

It's very unlikely that your daughter will acquire ITP. Autoimmune disorders tend to run in families, but they usually don't end up with the same ones (sometimes, not often).

I've never had my kids checked. I figured I'd know to do that if I saw nasty bruises like I had.
