Is it ok to take statins (Cholesterol lowering medicine, such as Zocor, Lipitor, Crestor)when you have ITP? My platelets are 77 and I have high cholestorol. My doctor wants me to take medicine to lower my high cholesterol.

The pharmacists are good at knowing this sort of stuff. It's what they do. When you are prescribed something ask the pharmacist when you get it supplied.

I have the same question. My doctor wants me to take omega 3s and niacin, but several posts on here seemed to warn against it so now i am confused...

Ben - it depends on your counts. If they are on the higher side, those should be okay.

It's sometimes difficult to manage two medical issues at the same time, especially when treating one may seem to cause a problem with the other. You have to weigh the pros and cons and decide which is the greater risk. Having high cholesterol isn't good either.
