Recently my counts dropped to 13K. The nurse suggested that I get a platelet transfusion just to be safe. With 100% confidence I replied, "No thanks, I'm good!"

I owe that confidence to PDSA and the information I've gleaned on platelet transfusions, which are fine in an emergency, but in my case not necessary or helpful.

And while I'm at it, I want to send out a big thanks the the ITPers from the UK. I don't know who said it, but a few years back someone said the doctors in the UK "treat the symptoms and not the numbers". I love that! It rocked my ITP world! It changed my way of thinking about and dealing with ITP. Don't the coolest things always come from the UK?!

My doctor and NP tend to treat the emergency before it happens. But over time they've grown to trust my lack of symptoms. That translates to lower dosages and fewer interventions- nice. good health to all- p

I had a nurse tell me that once too and my reaction was the same. I just waved and said, no, I'm going back to work. Can nurses even order those? If not, how can they suggest it?
