I have ITP since April 2006. I am 34 years old .

I started with a count of 2000 Platelets.
1. Was on cortisteriods for 6 weeks - It failed
2. Then underwent splenectomy in July 2006 – SUPPER SUCCESSFUL
3. Lead an awesome life until Jan 2012 – I had NO PROBLEMS for 5.5 years. God is great.
4. Now again back in the hospital with count of 4000 platelets (nose bleed) and on DEXAMETASONE , AZORAN and RITUXIAN
5. I will undergo my 4th Rituxian IV on 28th Feb 2012. and then wait and watch for the results.
I will live another 50 years minimum. With ITP . I will keep writing. RITUXIAN HAS TO WORK ON ME.
Besides all this I drink, wheat grass juice, Papaya leaf juice, beetroot juice, celery leaf juice and I am trying my best to take care of my health.
Dear ITP friends – please write to me.
LIFE IS TOO PRECIOUS. WE ITP PATIENTS ARE THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE ALIVE. OUT OF ALL THE DREADFUL DISEASES IN THE WORLD. GOD HAS OPTED TO GIVE US THE EASIEST, PAIN FREE DISEASE IN THE WORLD. THANK YOU GOD.

It is possible that you regenerated your spleen- has this been checked?

Dear all

On 28 feb I had nose bleed . very little though. and my platelet count was only 5000.
i have finished my 4th dose of Ruituximab yesterday and now my doctor says i would have to wait for another 8 weeks to conclude if Rituximab is a success or failure.

I have now stated the 4th set (4 days each set) of Dexamethasone tablet (40 mg)

I love this website. thanks for reading.
I'll update my progress.

Hi Seema,
I just found this website and feel better already. My 28 y.o. son was diagnosed 4 weeks ago;
tried on Steroids, nplate, rituxan, WinRho (which seemed to have caused his RBCs to go down) and
splenectomy. Platelets were 20,000 yesterdy. You sound like you have adjusted very well. I hope
we reach that point, but it is still frightening.

Hi Analyst, welcome to the "family".

Are you saying that your son went through all those treatments just in 4 weeks? Including having his spleen removed? Did he have serious bleeding or something that made him have the splenectomy? Just curious as that is just way too soon to go that route. Four weeks in and boom, no spleen? Wow! I put mine off for two years after I was diagnosed! The doctor couldn't prove it was my spleen causing the problem, so I said no way. Even when I did finally agree to it, it didn't work. It seems to me that none of the treatments he was given was given a chance to work before moving on to the next one. Wow, that just boggles my mind.

Good luck to your son!

It may be 8 weeks. His platelets kept dropping after everything they tried
and his spleen was enlarged. He is not stabilized. How long did it take you
to have a stable level and what is it? I'd really appreciate knowing what
levels people live at.

Analyst,

Even 8 weeks is quick to have a splenectomy.

I didn't get normal counts until I did Rituxan in /10 and unlike most people on here who do that treatment, I got a response right from the first infusion. Right now I'm sitting at the 300k+

You are fortunate to have had that kind of reaction to Rituxan.

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Dear Cyndi - I am really happy to know that rituxan worked for yo cyndi.

Dear analyst - Please do not worry much. Something will surely work.

I was hospitalised again from 10th March to 16th March. - Surprisingly this time I was admitted for altogether different reasons. I fainted, BP - 90-50, and Haemoglobin went down to 5.
Anyways finally all resolved and was discharged with all these new problems resolved and with a platelet count of 8000.
My doctor added 2 new medicines, Cellcept and dapsone.

Today I am fine and working from home. i may start going to work from tomorrow.

I am honestly happy - today i am fine and am functioning.

Hi All again

Guess what... last saturday 24th March my counts were 1.43 lakh and my HB was 13 .
I have stopped all alopathic medicines and am now only on Homeopathy.

Now ...I dont know what is working for me. is it is Rituximab or is it the homeopathy or is it tons of prayers. Anyways I am back on the job and all exited about every little thing. I surely know how precious good health is.

Love you all
