Every now and then on this site, the issues related to prednisone tapers come up, so I thought this might of interest -

I had my bloodword last week (about 100 days since splenectomy) - platelets holding at 316. Because of this, I've been tapering a pred dose that I've been taking everyday for about 7-8 years. (went from 4 mgs to 3 today). I mentioned to the Dr how exhausted I've been so he ordered cortisol bloodwork to determine how my adrenals were responding to the taper.

In this case, it was a morning fasting bloodwork. My value was 7 (ug/dL). THey considered this within the normal range. It turns out that there is some play in what is consider normal, but about 5 -25 is about the range for morning measures. At night, the normal range is lower, maybe 3 -15...
