Stereoids, how much?! was created by Anemone
Hello, my name is Anemone and I've been diagnosed with ITP since 16. My actual age is 20, turning 21 in 4 months. Since 16 I've been on stereoids, big doses. 16-18 I've been on Medrol, same as Prednisone, big doses 64mg/day, but my platelets wont rise at all, I told the doctor that I am not responding to the tratement but she said that I am addicted to it... It was her call, she was my doctor but I had doubts. 18-prezent, I've taken Prednisolone, same Prednisone, but it's a French tratement with lower side effects. I don't know what to do. It wasn't a day without tratemtent and my body has wierd reactions at it.
For example, I was talking to my doctor to put me on IgIV but he told me that I must have 20000plt. I was 35, I started decreasing the tratement(I was taking 15mg/day) and guess what? Instead of dropping, they rised at 45. I really don't know what to do, now I am taking 10mg/day of Prednisolone. I am considerig a spenectomy but my spleene is ok, doesnt seem "sick" to say like that.
Still, I have 4 years of Stereoids, without any interruption... This is not fine at all.
What do u recommend? :(

  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Have you read in the treatments section of this web site? Do you know what treatments are available in your country? Does your doctor know about treatments other than steroids and splenectomy?

It is not right that anyone should be on steroids for more than a few months. You need to get another opinion.

Yes I do, and Yes he does.
As I told you, in present I am on Prednisolone, this is not available in my country, I take him from France. And also I was talking about IgIV that he wants to give me but I he cant.
I am aware of the treatments... I was asking more about ur opinion, because corticostereoids on long terms give a lot of side effects, as well as many other treatments

Yes, Ann. Unfortunately many of the treatments are not available here in Romania... I should go in some other countries... I am really confused right now.

Anemone,
If you are interested in a more natural approach, I have a colleague in Croatia who is an excellent homeopath. Her husband is as well, and he is from Norway, so I think they travel between countries quite a bit. She is a very dedicated homeopath and she has helped many people. If you would like to consult with her, send me an email and I'll send you her contact information. I was able to cure my daughter's ITP using homeopathy, when other treatments weren't working or were unexceptable to us. After just 4 days on her remedy, she went from 11k to 411k, after months of sitting between 3k and 10k.
She also had remarkable improvements in all areas--physical, mental, emotional and general, like fatigue. Best of all, there are no side effects. I can't believe they've had you on Prednisone or similar for 4 years! This is not good and your body is telling that to you. It's a difficult drug to get off of and must be tapered gradually. But, it can be done. Homeopathy can also help you have an easier time when tapering. It is a good sign that your body was able to go up in platelets, rather than down. Usually it is the opposite. Hold onto your spleen as you may need it as you get older. Try the least invasive and damaging treatments first.

Good luck to you,
April
