ITP due to too much antibiotics? was created by purplekedi
Hi all,

I'd like to say first of all that you're doing a great thing here. I've already learned so much about ITP. I've become a member to help a friend who's been diagnosed recently. I'm in Turkey and my friend doesn't speak English, and I am myself dealing with auto-immune problems having Hashimoto's and Sjogren's. It's been a nasty roller coaster. I've dealt with them for 10 years and recently I've been able to reverse Sjogren's, hopefully for good. I'd like help my dear friend just the same.

My question is, whether anyone knows of a connection between taking too many antibiotics and ITP. Obviously antibiotics are not the prettiest things, but we need them sometimes. I try not to take them at all. My friend is not like this and prior to her fresh diagnosis, she used them too often too much. I'd be really happy to hear any opinions, experiences, read studies about this.

Feel good everyone.

With love and de-light

Purple - antibiotics can trigger ITP without being overused. Any drug can be considered a trigger.

Coincidentally I've just taken antibiotics for an ear infection and while taking them my platelet count normalised. My count has crashed now I've finished the antibiotics. So it seems that they affect me a lot. I don't imagine that it would have been antibiotics that triggered ITP in the first place for me as I don't take them very often at all but I can well imagine that they might trigger someone else's ITP. I don't imagine that overuse was necessarily a factor except that the more you use them the more opportunity they have to trigger the disorder.

How did you reverse your Sjogrens?

I've had certain antibiotics that seemed to cause a huge drop and some that seemed to cause my counts to go up. Or, it could have been a coincidence. It all deepnds on the person and the drug.
