Is anyone planning to go to the ITP Support Association convention in May?

I was thinking I might go this year, especially since it is in York which is where I went to Uni. Its not too far from where I live either - maybe a two hour drive or so.

Probably not me as it is too far and too expensive to travel. It isn't near the railway station in York either which adds to the problems. We'll expect a report from you if you go. :)

Oh well, true to form I changed my mind. I've now booked to go. Found some cheap train deal. Our train ticket system is very silly. If I were to buy the ticket from the company of the actual line it would have cost £38 return but searching a bit got it down to £24 with East Coast trains.. crazy as you have to check every company to see who is the cheapest.

I'd like to meet you. How will I recognise you? I'll be wearing jeans and no doubt look terribly scruffy.

Hi Alison, Ann

I recently joined the ITP Support Association, and am also thinking of going to the convention in May - will let you know if/when I book it up. Will check their site to confirm what the presentations are - the one on food intolerance looked interesting ...

Hi Rachael

They are doing a study to see if avoiding foods we are allergic to, if any, affects the platelet count. I had my blood tested, testing is at Addenbrookes in Cambridge, and it came back negative. So obviously nothing to do with food intolerances for me. I don't think they've had all that many people go for testing as there aren't that many of us in the first place, and even fewer who can get to Cambridge so I don't know if they are really going to be able to tell us very much yet.

Ann, I was about to say that I would be the scruffy looking one in jeans, but I see you've already beaten me to it! We'll have to think of something distinctive nearer the time!

Rachael, I went last year and it was really useful and interesting. On the basis of last year's presentation on the food intolerance study, I tried a fortnight of dairy free for my son, but it had no effect - and it was very difficult trying to cut it out! Anyway, the conference must have been ok, because I've decided to risk it again. Come along and join me and Ann; we could all carry the Times and wear a red carnation!!!! :P

I too am scruffy and wear jeans, so we'd all match, complete with the Times and red carnation! Will check the dates and see about transport options!

It's quite a way. Nearly two hours on the train.. Kings Cross to York and then a bus which is said to take 20 minutes. If you want cheap Advance train tickets you have to make a decision soon as the price will rise as time goes on. I found the cheapest train tickets through East Coast trains. www.eastcoast.co.uk/

Hi folks, First post on here...
I'll be at the conference in May so hope to meet a few of you there - it'd be good to have somebody to look out for.
It's far enough away from my home to warrant getting a room for the night - if there's any sort of bar I'll be there the night before!

It's a university so there's sure to be a bar, but I think others of us are day tripping it this time. Hope to meet up with everyone there though.

I went to uni in York and there are definitely a lot of bars on campus, and some good pubs in the city centre. Hope to see everyone there - we really need to work out some identification system - hats???
