strange "symptom"? was created by server
this morning I woke up with this white thick stuff coming from my eyes. It slowly went away. Then I took a nap earlier today and when I woke up it was worse. It's white and thick and blurs my vision. When I blink it moves around and collects in the corner of my eyes. It's weird. I'm wondering if it's an effect of tapering off the prednisone. Any ideas?

It could be something like Conjunctivitis, or just a lot of sleep in your eyes. I do remember i used to get that too when i was on the pred, don't know if it is just from tapering off cause i got it even when i was on a steady dose of pred. Prednisone use can affect the eyes as well. The most common side effects in the context are glaucoma and cataract formation. It can also blur your vision. If your concerned or worried about it, then best thing would be to talk to your doctor about it.

I don't do pred, but occassionally get it when my allergies are in full swing. I've also have had eyelashes get caught under the upper lid. When I lift the lid to gently wipe away the white gunk so I can clear the blurriness, then the lash moves so I feel it when I blink. Once I can feel it, I can take a clean soft wash cloth and wipe it away.

Being a very light skinned, blue eyed blonde my sister has what they call a heriditary tendency to get eye infections under the upper lid and has to do the drops for the high pressure that can lead to glaucoma. Optiminolgist told her to put baby shampoo on a q-tip and gently wash the eye and under the upper lid.

I don't have ITP, but I have the same problem currently. Mine is from pollen allergies. In SC, everything's in bloom. Lovely, but allergenic. Sounds like you have allergies or conjunctivitis.

turns out it is pink eye. :(
here's the rest of the story though.
Went to ER for eye situation. They did a CBC and platelet count was only 4, I just had the transfusion the day before! The ER doc went crazy and put me in the hospital overnite so I could get ANOTHER transfusion. I'm about done with those things! I was not a happy camper at all. There was no reason I had to spend the nite in the hospital. I was there until 2pm today. That won't happen again without obvious symptoms (bleeding) which thankfully I've not had. Got a call a few minutes ago, they are going to start the NPlate tomorrow! Yeah! I'm ready for a change!

This is what Sandi has been saying on the other thread. If your body is distroying platelets, a transfusion will only give you a very limited time frame of releif and is typically reserved for emergency surgery or bleeds as a stop gap until a med can take effect.

Thats right, your body will kill off donor platelets just as quick as it would your own platelets.
