other forms of treatment? was created by debrasla
My son(22) has been on prednisone and is now at 160mg a day which they are lowering each week now that his rituxan treatments just started. I hear about other remedies for itp? What other remedies are some people talking about? does it really work?

Have a read of the latest international guidelines..

bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/content/115/2/168.full

They list things like steroids, IVIG, Anti-D (WinRho), immunosuppressants like azathioprine (Imuran) and mycophenolate (CellCept), also Danazol and Dapsone, and rituximab (Rituxan), and then the TPO (pronounced teepo) drugs eltrombopag (Promacta, Revolade) and romiplostim (Nplate).

They all have success with some patients and not others so it's trial and error. I tried 7 of those treatments myself ending up with Nplate which is working well with no side effects for me.

Yes, there are other treatments. Your son is trying two of the most commonly used treatments. Hopefully, one of those will work and he won't need to move on to the others.
