ITP, MRI AND CONTRAST was created by Michellek
Hi all. I just had a MRI of the brain yesterday (for another issue)without contrast dye. The MRI office called today and they want to bring me back to do the MRI again but this time with Contrast dye. Will this have an effect on maybe making my ITP return since I know they do the dye by IV and it runs though you system.

My counts have been good since November and I am down to 5mg predisone this week and see my Hematolgoist tomorrow (Friday the 20th)

I think you'd have to ask what the chemical makeup of the dye is and then look it up to see if ITP/platelet impact is listed as a possible side effect. I have never seen anyone on this board report issues from MRI dye.

I've also had a couple of MRI's with contrast over the past few years, no problems at all.

Thank you all for your replies. I had the MRI with contrast done today. Now to find out what this pain in my head is all about. Wonder if it's related to the ITP or a separate issue.. Guess I will find out sooner enough!.
