I've read that with ITP it's good to have a medic id bracelet incase of emergency or accidents. Do any of you wear them and if so can you recommend where to get one? Maybe one that's "nice" looking. I don't want one that looks like a ID bracelet from grade school.

I bought my daughter's bracelet at www.laurenshope.com . It was a practical nylon one, because she was an active athlete, but they also had beautiful ones with beads and such. They looked a lot like charm bracelets.

I did not want one that looked like a medical ID bracelet to others - so I put together the one below from Steel Bells at ebay. Larry is a nice person, answers emails promptly, will get in a charm you need if he doesn't have it.

My son is a former EMT and he said he would have seen it on my wrist - I've also asked nurses and doctors and they too said yes it would be noticed. Now I usually only wear it if I'm in a car or on a trip.

I even have a gold Mickey Mouse head on it :)

The surgeon who perfomed my splenectomy almost 10 years ago was the first to suggest that I wear one. It shows ITP, splenectomy and my allergy to nuts. Medic Alert has many bracelets and necklaces from casual to fancy. I always, always, always wear mine.

I got mine from the same place Christine got hers. Unfortunately, I let my membership expire last Jan; may get to re-new this year. They have a nice looking watch that I'm saving up for. It says: ITP, splenectomy; TMJ disorder; Hypothyroidism and on prednisone, which I have to have taken off as it's been over a year since being on it.

I was at the pharmacy at wallgreens and they had information on the bracelets so I brought it home and ordered one for my son Zachary. I hadn't realized they have links where you can order them on this site. I was actually very surprised by the cost variations. I had Zack pick out the one he wanted within reason to ensure he would wear it.
