I have had ITP for over 17years tried most treatments had a splenectomy in 2005 which made my counts go way up..had a stroke due to the increase in platelets. But stayed in remission for 3 years. Came out of remission and was put on Promacta over 2 years ago. Only took 8 doses and my counts were over 1 million so my hemotologist took me off of it. My question is when I stopped taking it I developed ulcers on my eyes..never really looked for a connection of the drug to the ulcers..eye doctor treated with steriod drops etc. went away. but my vision has slowly gotten worse over the years. Can't see to drive at night, words bunch up when reading etc. I'm wondering now if anyone else has had this problem. I have noticed my brusing is strange now too. My counts are steady and I have continued to enjoy a drug free remission which I'm so greatful for...but my eyes are getting worse? I have glasses and was given new glasses...but now I need to go back again.
Thanks for any information or if anyone has experienced the same thing. I wish everyone health and happiness in 2012~

Best wishes to everyone.

I have taken promacta before however I have never had those symptoms nor heard of them. I wasn't warned of them maybe occurring by my doctor. It may be related and they don't know it only because promacta is such a new drug. I'm sorry I couldn't help more.

DJ - how old are you? The same thing happened to me with vision loss - over 40 eyes.

Promacta can cause cataracts . It is writtenn in the long list of side effects. Make sure to get your eyes checked often
and report side effects to your hematologist

Hi Dj. I've been on Promacta for almost a year now. I haven't noticed anything like you've explained but my eyes are getting worse. As Sandi mentioned I'm also over 40 so I'm sure that has something to do with it. I didn't need glasses until I was 45 though. I'm with the suggestions of getting your eyes checked regularly. My doctor also told me to go to an Optomologist and not just a Optomotrist. Don't know if either of those are spelled right!

I've been taking Promacta for 2 years and have had no eye issues from it.
I'm 58, been wearing glasses for 50 years, and have been treated for ITP for the past 8 years.
