It would be interesting to see why the CDC recommended against. The MMR vacine is a suspect in childhood ITP. I've had multiple MMR shots, since I didn't develop an immunity to measles until I was in my 30's. Every time there was an outbreak, my PCP would order a titer blood draw and if I didn't have immunity, I got another vacination. The issue is that it only seems to come in the MMR combination.
I was just reading that whooping cough (pertussis?) has made a come back since many parents are not vacinating like they should. It may be a guideline that health care professionals to get a booster.
Rather than taking the vaccine, can you get the paperwork for the titers? As long as you could prove that you had immunity and include the CBC recommendation, you might get an exception for having to have the vacination.
The MMR is also often suspected with autism. An friend has a grandchild with autism and one of the theories is that the silver nitrate used as a preservative it the possible trigger. She advocates making sure that if parents should make sure that the vacine that are used do not contain it.
