Dentist Recommendation-Chicago Area

Does anyone know a dentist who isn't afraid to work on someone with ITP (tooth extraction probably necessary)? I am in constant pain. My hemo said at 50,0000 he wants me to go straight to the dentist, but I know my public aid dentist won't even look at me below 100,000. I'm still at 30,000 now, but in constant pain and want to be prepared once platelets get up (cross fingers).

I'm sorry you are hurting! My dentist was willing to work on me with counts well below 50k, she said she had methods to control bleeding and wasn't worried. But my hemo suggested I wait for 50k.

Can you get IVIG or dex or something quick and short acting to get a boost?

Dex didn't work to boost them up higher than that. Using N-Plate now.

Wow - can you find a new dentist? My hemo was okay with 50,000 also.

Can the dentist maybe do something else temporarily besides pull the tooth? I've strung mine along that way with other methods.

Am not American so don't know how it works fully but couldnt the Hemo refer you to a specific dentist and get it done straight away or something?

I need an extraction doing too but I am not in any pain that was over quite quick for me. I went to the dentist this year and he wouldn't do it whilst on prednisolone. Since I went I haven't been off prednisolone yet as was hardly off it a week and that week I was in hospital and at the following appointment my platelets crashed down to 5 so straight back on them....

I am down to 5mg whilst the 19th of this month. Trouble is it takes about 3 weeks to get an appointment at my dentist. And now that this current dentist understands ITP he wants to know my platelet count. He did that day. Dentists don't do blood tests. And I can't book it for the 20th because last time the hemo alternated the prednisolone to 5mg one day and the next day none and that would have lasted a week accepted that my platelets did drop.

So I understand your frustration whether in UK or USA. Sorry I cannot recommend anyone but why not ring up hemo and ask them for a recommendation. Sorry you are in pain for its agony.
