A good news & a bad... was created by brishti
Hi everyone
Wanna share a good news & a bad news with you all. The good news is I am pregnant & just finished 14 weeks of my pregnancy. When I got pregnant my plts were not stable. I was taking IvIg. During my 1st trimester, the IvIg was working perfectly. I was getting it on every 3 weeks when my counts were about 30k. Everything was going right.

Now the bad news is when I was on my 12 week the IvIg stopped working. My counts were 10K within a week of the IvIg treatment. So My Hema & Gyn adviced me to go for Prednisone. So I started taking 50 mg of prednisone for a month from today. Hope it works for me!
I am focusing on my pregnancy at this moment but Just out of curiosity wanna know if the side effects of prednisone will be the same on me during this pregnancy. I mean the pregnancy is making me hungry and the prednisone will also make me hungry. So if both hunger comes together what's gonna happen to me, I will eat like crazy  ...

Thanks

Congratulations to you! Sorry you're having such a tough time though. I don't know if the side effects will be worse or not. Carrots! Celery! Bananas!

Congrats on your pregnancy. Too bad the IVIG stopped working. Is your icon representing 'roid rage? I can relate to that. I can also relate to the eating part. It's hard because you want to eat well for your new little one, but can't go overboard, as the pred makes you want to.

I hope that everything related to your pregnancy goes smoothly. Keep us up to date on how it goes.

Hunger pang tips. I don't know about pregnancy but for steroids. Tip: eat little and often. Not large meals. But little meals and a balanced diet. Make sure you have plenty of fruit that you like too. Yes, you will bloat up etc, but by maintaining your weight throughtout, when you do finish the steroids it be easier to loose. I go to Slimming world in UK and this time is the very first time I have lost albeit a few lbs but usually gain or maintaing. I bought an exercise bike and when I use it regular I loose evne on the steroids. Don't know how that be compantiable with pregnancy. Slimming World is in USA so why not find out if you have one near you or some other diet club as such that accepts pregnant women. They will hopefully point out that you wont loose weight whilst pregnant because you are naturally gaining weight with the baby, but you be in control so once you have given birth, the journey after will not be so hard.

Just an update here:

Started Prednisone 50 mg / day on July 21st, 2011
Platelet count on July 25, 2011 - 48K
Platelet count on July 26, 2011 - 83K
Platelet count on August 02, 2011 - 30K :(
Platelet count on August 05, 2011- 7K ( Had IvIg & Prednisone 40 mg/day from Aug 06)
I really don't understand what my Hema wants. Even though she saw that my plts were only 30k she didn't gave me any treatment & sended me home ... Then after 2 days my count was only 7k. I am so tired of low count!

16+ weeks pregnant.

Thanks
