NOT gestational...now what? was created by cloyd915
I followed up with my hematologist for the 1st time since my son was born on 5-16-11. I was diagnosed with Gestational ITP in February. I really hoped that my son would arrive and things would go back to normal...but my platelets were low today (19). I'm so frustrated and discouraged. I have been out of work since Feb with appointments like crazy and IV treatments left and right. I just want to know why this hasn't gone away :(
I'm thinking of making some diet changes. Hema wants to continue with IVIg 2x a week. I'm already tired of this. How do those of you with chronic ITP manage? Any tips? What worked for you?

Diagnosed with ITP 2/7/11
Treating regularly with IVIg
Currently in the low 100's

It's a bit too soon to rule out gestational ITP. It can take months for that to resolve, especially if you are breast feeding. I wouldn't give up hope yet - it takes a while for hormones to get back to normal.

I would not have been able to do IVIG twice a week long term. Definitely too time invasive. It is possible to work and have ITP, many of us do. I used Prednisone and Rituxan to be able to continue to work. I only had to miss four days of work that way and just did counts on my lunch hour and Dr. appointments at the very end of the day.

If your hemo won't work with you, maybe look for a new one?

How is that baby doing?
