  • Diagnosed in 2000, at 59, after being on moderately high doses of NSAIDs for arthritis. Splenectomy and rituxan both failed (2004). Did well on prednisone till summer 2018--then terrible reactions. Promacta since 11-19.

Do you mean by "this time," that you've responded more quickly to prednisone before? Could you give us a little more of your ITP history?

I, too, ended up in the hospital last Thanksgiving weekend with a count of 6,000 which went down to 2,000 by the time I got to hospital from home. Received transfusion of platelets, plus 60 mg. of Prednisone for that weekend. I have Sjogren's Syndrome and have had a low count (119,000) for many years. I ignored the symptoms of ITP (which I shouldn't have)for over a month. Have been on prednisone since then -- different strengths according to the count. When the prednisone gets lowered, the platelets go down, too. It's frustrating. It is helping, too, but I only hope I can get off the drug and level out to where I was. There are other drugs to take for this condition but I'm scared of them.
But now I'm questioning if it was the flu/swine vaccination I received in October that started the platelets plummeting. I wrote to the CDC but haven't heard from them yet.
Can I assume you're seeing a hematolgist?
