Change in Counts was created by pakau565
Hi Guys,

I was diagnosed of ITP in July, 2010.

Was given Immunoglobulin and my counts were up and running.

I went for a CBC count 2 days back and they replied back saying my platelet counts are 270K. The same evening I found a small red dot (much similar to what I found when I was diagonised)and hence went in for another test.

This time the counts are 256K.

I am worried as to whether these are early signs of a dormant volcano getting active.

PS I was never on any steroids

Counts have a margin of error around 10k and also they tend to vary normally so I don't think your two data points at this point could be called any kind of a trend. Now whether you are a dormant volcano is a larger question that I don't have enough info to address!

To be honest, I wouldn't ever worry about one small red dot. Those are caused by low counts, not by counts that might drop sometime down the line.

If you see patches of them and they increase or you start to see nasty spontaneous bruises, then you need to think about getting a count.

Hi!

Like everyone else, I wouldn't worry about one red dot. I have found single red dots on my skin and at first I thought they were petichea and they were not. I don't know what they are though.

I have noticed that if I do get petichae related to low platelet counts, they are usually in clusters.

As for the change in platelet counts, I have had a difference of 50k in platelet counts in one week and my hema says essentially they were the same. Your platelets can fluctuate as much as 50k and it would still be ok she said. Even the lab who does my blood work do not flag it as a change if there is a difference of 50k.

Hope that helps :)

Hi

I have red spots which I thought were Petichea, but my Doc said there were Campbell De Morgan spots. You may want to look that up.

My count is 67.
All the best.
Benny.
