OKAY so I am really excited now!!! My platelets have come up another 39000 in just 2 days putting them at 121000...YAYAAAAAY!!!! They have increased 118000 in just 9 days!!! I am starting a taper of prednisone but the Dr thinks that they will continue to do well since they responded well so quickly...

All other bloodwork is still really good... Just curious though has anyone had responses like this with platelets and what was your result and I know everyone is different but I really like to hear others stories! So please let me know!!:woohoo: ! B)

Yes we're all different. Mine increased 130,000 in 6 days when first on prednisone. Then since we were moving overseas the doctor tried to get me off prednisone too fast and dropped my dose by 1/2, count hit the skids and I had to start at square 1 again.

How is he having you taper?

great news

Mine has always responded well to prednisolone and ivig but this time is my very first time was just on prednisolone.... as was a bit aware of the drawbacks it says on here about just prednisolone but not bothered as already in Cardiff when I stop them so if they drop I will have made it to my aunts, rather than persuading the hospital to speed it all up. If they drop after I stop I cannont blame the hospital at all because I did so want to make the new year holiday and if they had started the IVIG I wouldn't have made it. So it will be interesting to see if my platelets stay up once completely stop. Of which am now on 10mg a day till thursday then 5mg a day for 7 days then stop.... So it kind of exciting to see if I survive on just prednisolone this time....

Good for you!! Like you I usually get a good response with steroids (Prednisone and Dexamethasone).

I like doing a very slow taper though. I have found that this helps my ITP to go into remission. So even though I have been on the 100s I stay on 80mg for about a month, then 70mg for about 2 weeks and then a week on each dose after. It is really a very slow taper but it has worked for me

If I taper fast, my platelets crash. My hema knows this because the past 3 episodes I have had, I put my cbc results in a spreadsheet along with the dose of prednisone I was on at each time.

I also found that tapering very slowly has also minimize the side effects for me. Tapering fast gives me bone pain and bad tremors and really bad brain fog.

Hope it works out for you as well :D

I have had fast responses like that too. Like some others, a fast taper only brought counts crashing, so I went slow and pretty much waited until I hit the mid-200's. All you can do is try it and see what happens.

we also taper our son very slowly and for a while we were at 6mgs of pred. The last week we tapered it down to 4 mgs, planning to keep it at this for the next month or so. So far we have seen the effects of the taper in the form of bruises and minor nose bleeds, but the moon face continues to lessen too.

Im sure my son is in the high 20s or low 30s so hopefully we dont crash during the taper. Wishing the best for you all. :)

What is considred fast or slow taper?

Since New year I have been reducing by 5mg a week starting point of 60mg... judging by what I read on here it seems fast to me? I completely finish a week thursday.

though am well aware we all respond differently.... to tapering etc.
