levels up! was created by iam4ual
Praise the Lord my platelets are up from 3000 to 82000 in just 7 days on Prednisone! I am not sure how excited I should ge though?! Dr says he wants them at 130000 before tapering. Should I get excited about this level this quickly? All other blood work is still good. I am new to all of this and I want to be excited but dr also said that only 30 percent get cured or in remission on one round of prednisone. But I have known ones who have had platelets actually come up after tapering and the way I understand most times folks are not treated at 82000?

Now I am rambling so I will hush but if anyone has insight or advice I would love to hear it! Is this a good thing?

Be exicited and enjoy the moment whether short or long lived. Don't squash your real feelings. It is going in the right direction though am suprised he wants them so high but we are all different. But there again he be right. I know I am allowed home from hospital once my platelet count is in double numbers and have risen three times in a row. By the following outpatient appointment they usually have risen to 400+ but that is natural pattern for me. Today they have nicely levelled out to 240(+) which is a good usual balance for me and finsh the steroids two week tomorrow. I go back in a month time to check. Though with the usual instruction of ring if I see....
Glad you have good news to share. What happens tomorrow is tomorrow. You can live for today in between time and enjoy the moment. :silly: :silly: :silly: :silly:

Shannon - of course you can get excited! The good news is that you are out of the danger zone and have a treatment that works. Those two things alone are reasons to be happy. Don't think about remission yet - one day at a time.

No, people do not start treatment at 82,000, but if you are already in the middle of a treatment, you should complete it. Some doctors don't begin the taper until you reach a high and plateau.
