Blood in Urine (Always?)

Blood in Urine (Always?) was created by ggundel86
Hi there,

So I've been having abdominal pain which was later identified as ovarian cysts and a UTI but I've noticed that I always have blood in my urine according to my test results. Is this an ITP thing? The doc says its also a UTI but that's what they always say and then change their minds.

UBLG (whatever that is) is always there. Sometimes a trace but usually moderate to a large amount and normal is Negative. Leuk Est is usually there too (whatever that is) and normal is negative.

My doctor says it's normal to have blood in the urine though? I'm on Bactrum now because the pain has gotten worse and my temp has been around 100 every night even though the culture says 50,000-100,000 Staph (which is only borderline UTI). Pain started around Christmas Day.

and my platelets were completely normal at 130! So I wonder if ITP can cause blood to be in your urine regardless of how normal the count might be?

Do you by any chance have interstitial cystitis instead of a UTI? It's an autoimmune disease and you might want to entertain talking to your doctor about it. Diagnosis can be done via process of elimination without doing any scopes (which causes more damage). You can google it to see if your symptoms match. If they do, you might mention it to your doc.

I have trace of blood in my urine for many years even with normal platelet count.
2 years ago when I was dx with itp, the trace became moderate & somtimes high.
Probably there's a link.

No, if your counts are up, you shouldn't have blood in your urine due to ITP. There are several things that can cause blood in urine.

Leuk Est are white blood cells which usually indicates infection.

I can't find anything about UBLG - are you sure that's what it says?

The blood in my urine is not caused by ITP.

But subsequently when I have ITP, the blood trace became moderate & higher.
The doctor said there could be a link as low platelets can cause bleeding & hence
higher count of trace of blood in my urine.
But the renal doctor still doesn't know the cause of blood in my urine & I have
this problem for many many years way before I have ITP.

They said I had a UTI caused by staph infection and cornebacterium (sp?) so I'm on antibiotics but they always say I have a UTI when I don't...but it's possible they are right this time. I've been on bactrim for almost 7 full days and the pain has been better except for today, the pain is back in my lower back.

I'm on it for ten days though so it still has time to get rid of this completely

They told me to just take ibuprofen. I asked if that's okay...because of the mild ITP that he dxed but he doesn't seem worried about my counts and neither am I at this point. I think he just said ITP for no reason. He's my PCP but also a hematologist...he said it's a mild case of ITP...

So when I went back to see him with a blood blister in my mouth that I kept getting and I was feeling sick, he said not to take Ibuprofen because of the ITP...Funny thing is...I'm wondering if he even knows what ITP is. He didn't even tell me himself...he had his nurse email me that I had ITP even though my platelets were only down to 117 and that's the lowest they've gone on record. I have a slow clotting time but usually my platelets are at least 130.

I think maybe the ITP dx he gave me was bogus and he was just trying to give it a name..ya know?

Don't think it's that because I had a cystoscope done a few years back and he said everything looked okay. I told him it was painful but that was about it.

If you're having repeated infections you can take a tsp. of d-mannose powder daily and that will keep any bacteria from sticking to your bladder. D-mannose is the sugar in cranberries that makes them effective for UTI's, but it's in a much more concentrated form. We had to use it daily for a year for our daughter when she was younger. Also, what did they say about the pain when you had a cytoscopy? That is one of the symptoms of IC. Your doc sounds like he's not up to snuff on a few things.

He didn't say anything other than everything looked normal and he couldn't explain the blood they keep finding in my urine or the bilirubin they found once
