Just wondering if anyone gets an increase in muscle cramping when low in platelets? I have a recurrence of cramping and this is the only factor I can think of that is different. Nothing different in diet or anything else. All electrolyte levels normal. Thanks for any input.

I had bad cramping in my feet and legs. I am not sure if it was a)low platelets, b)low potassium or c)being on prednisone or a combination of those things. Have you had your potassium levels checked? I had to learn to move my feet very very carefully at night. The weirdest thing is that at the same time my s.o. also developed foot cramps and sometimes we would both leap out of bed with cramps at the same time.

Anyway, my counts are up and I'm off prednisone and I take rx potassium and I haven't had the problem in a long time.

Hi Debbie,

I get a lot of cramping on prednisone and my doctor says it's low calcium. She said she tells this to most people who have cramping and that calcium supplements help. She told me to take 1500 mg of calcium + vitamin D. The problem is that you can only absorb 500 mg of calcium at a time, so I spread it out during the day. You also have to be careful because calcium can interfere with the absorption of some medications. It can be quite tricky, but when I manage to do it, then the cramping does go away.

Sometimes I do. I know the last drop (boxing day) When they were dropping from 7 to 3 my legs were definately quite stiff that night... Sometimes am stiff the week before and feel the old splenectomy tissue.

In relation I always find the mainly the right breast but does include both breasts definately ache when the platelets are on their way up. Never at any other time in my live... (though have remembered the breasts can be sore a week before the platelet drop too:-)
