CMV?? was created by shen08
Hey,

Had Hema today, my platelets are 24, I got excited but know that they are dropping. I have CMV virus the doc said this could be causing abnormal liver function test and low platelets. So the steroids were not a good choice of treatment, I have been reduced from 50 mg to 30. Does anyone know if this virus could be the cause of all this then, or could it be the virus and my slightly strange body. Either way shes taking me off the steroids and the treatment for the platelets will be the ivig if i need it.

I am soo annoyed as I didnt get to ask any questions nor was I asked how I had been feeling, the whole thing was rushed and I waited over an hour past my appointment time. I am considering getting an appointment with GP to see if he might know any more as from what i can tell the virus itself is like having a flu. Its all just one big waiting game, but she said that there is a possibility that it will just go away.

How is everyone?

Hi!

I was tested for CMV. My doctor thought I might have had it but my IGG results were high and the IGA were normal so they said I had it and not anymore or something like that.

I hope you feel better soon!

CMV is Cytomegalovirus, and I've been told it's a very common infection that most people --like 85%!-get before 18. As I understand it, it's like measles--once you've had it, you don't get it again. It is very bad for infants and pregnant moms, though, with effects that can be permanent for the baby. They can tell if you've never had it by doing those blood tests you mention. I'm a CMV negative blood donor, and they check mine every time, to be sure I haven't gotten it in the previous 2 months! Ann, Caitlin's Mom
