My hemo and GP both say it'll take time - rather general but I'd like to know from general experiences. I started with 100mg/day and tapered 5mg/week. Due to pneumonia and hospitalization I was using pred for 19 weeks. My thighs and shoulders are noticeably week but I have to realize I've only been off pred for about 4 weeks.

Any timelines to share?

Hi Steve,
I had very bad muscle pain and weakness as I tapered and for several months after. I would say by 4 months of no pred I was back to normal. It was scary though. And I remember for example sitting on my bus on my way to work thinking about how I would have to stand up soon and how that would hurt and be very difficult and hoping I could do it ok.

I have been on prednisone for almost 3 years...the last 9 months hovering between 5mg and 1mg. My thighs are still weak and have been diagnosed with prednisone myopothy. The Rheum I saw said it takes as long as you were on prednisone for it to go away- if it every does. He has a woman that was on HDP for something else and is in leg braces to this day. It saves lives but leaves a mark too.
