WHEN DOES THE PANIC STOP ???? was created by gothicgirl
I have to go for my blood test tomorrow at my GPs office so when I see my Haemo again on Wednesday he can see my latest count. The thing is I am panicking....firstly because the last time I had the blood test at the Gps office was the day I got diagnosed, they were phoning me within an hour of having it done.....and secondly I am worried that my count will have gone down on Wednesday when I see the Haemo...I have absolutely no symptoms, have been taperng the Pred (20mg every other day) and feel perfctly fine...so when does all this panic stop ???? I am checking myself all the time for rashes, bruises, blood blisters etc......I am becoming a nervous wreck, pushing my fiance away and wont talk things over with him etc.......its really starting to get to me now...I just want to be my old self again:(

I don't think I can say it any better the "Gort" did about a month ago in the second page of the link below.

Yes, Steve (Gort) did a great job.

I'd like to add to that. It does take time to stop panicking. In time, you realize that the only thing you are really fearing is having to treat. Then you realize that you've treated before and survived, and you can do it again. So what's to fear?

I think a doctor's initial reaction also sets the tone. My doctor was always very calm and never scared me in any way no matter what the count. Life just went on.

I agree with Sandi that the attitude of the medical professionals sets a tone. I got really scared by the lab personnel and my general doctor before I started going to a hema, I had some low counts and one time when I went for a count instead of giving me my results as they had before, they starting avoiding my eye and scurrying around me and left me waiting for an hour, would only tell me I had to wait and talk to the doctor. If someone had just looked at me and spoken to me it would have been so much better. I was so scared and upset by the time I talked to my doctor. My count was bad, probably in the teens, but there was no need to scare me and treat me like that. I stopped using that lab, and I also told the head tech/manager how much she had upset me with her behavior.
