My daughter is 4 1/2 and she was diagnosed a year ago since diagnosed we have been going up in numbers and sometimes have Petechiae, and still easily bruises.
We get sick of course but this cold is really bad and her throat was so inflammed our pediatrician who knows she has ITP said try Motrin.
She woke up today and Petechiae is traveling on her. Not so much bruises. Should I take her right to CHOC? I’ll stop the Motrin of course. Very worried mom.

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Your paediatrician should not have suggested it in my opinion. Ibuprofen along with other NSAIDs is not recommended for ITP patients.

Agree. From day 1 back in 1989 I was told the only thing I could take is Tylenol. However right now I am taking 2 baby aspirin a day for a month to ward off a blood clot after knee replacement surgery, but my platelets are being tested a lot.
