Low platelets for 4 years was created by shaystrom
So i went to my regular doctor the other day and she informed me for the past 4 years my platelets have been dropping and not returning to normal, they were at 244 about 5 years ago and now they are at 130. she told me i need to see a blood doctor, and i always am only 20 years old and am suffering for hair loss, heavy/long periods and chest pain. nervous and not sure if anyone has any information or tips from their own experience! please help!

130 is still a very good count and I'm not sure why the doctor is concerned. It is slightly below normal on the lab reference range, but the criteria for ITP is counts consistently below 100. I don't think you have anything to worry about at this point, but see the Hematologist and see what he says. Chances are, he will just want to monitor you for a while.

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.

Maybe have your thyroid function checked?

My thyroid is fine and all other blood work came back normal

Hair loss and chest pain are not symptoms of ITP. Heavy periods can be, but generally not with counts as high as yours. I'd ask your doctors to check for vitamin deficiencies and possibly see a GYN.
