Over the past few months, I've battled several infections of different varieties and now feel another coming on. I've never been prone to infection and very rarely use antibiotics. I can't think of any physical or environmental reasons for this change. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced an increase in either the amount or severity of infections and if it could be related to ITP in any way.

As far as I know, infections are completely unrelated to (untreated) ITP.
LOL, now if you had a splenectomy, that would be a totally different situation.

My daughter was rarely sick. She has only been on antibiotics one time that I remember (she is 20 now). The year her platelets were very low she was sick all the time. Mostly viral type things, colds, coughing, sore throats and stomach aches. I am not sure whether the constant illness ramped up the autoimmune response or the autoimmune issues left her susceptible to everything going around, or if it was all unrelated. She ended up being treated with Promacta, her counts are still up and she is back to her healthy self.

I never noticed an increase in infections when counts were low. If I was on treatment, like Prednisone, I did seem to get sick more often. Immunosuppressants may cause an increase in infections, but there is no logical reason why ITP would.
