Just got diagnosed Nov 25, 2016. Woke up in the morning and my mouth was full of blood, my gums wouldnt stop bleeding
Totally thought this was a dental issue and went to a dentist who refered me to a hospital. I was told my platelets were less than 5 but basically undetectable. I was given the ivig they ran tons of tests amd that was basically it. Over my 4 days in the hospital my platelets doubled and they let me go home with a steroid I only had to take for 3 days. I went went on a 7 day trip and had my blood work done when I returned and doc says im in remission. Is this common? I read about all you folks on constant treatment. I take nothing. Should I concerned. I get a blood test at the end of jan to do a final check as my doc calls it. Is he countingmy chickens a little early?

Honestly, I've never seen such a fast response. It could have been an acute case. What was your last count?

Doc didnt give me numbers like everyone else gets. And i didnt think to ask. The last test was done a week and a half after diagnosis and ivig and he said normal, probably acute case and should be in remission till god knows when. And sent me on my merry way. Booked follow up late January.

Just wondering if i should be getting a second option. Everyone else seems to have way long treatment plans.

It depends on your counts. If they are up, you don't have to do anything unless they drop again. The doctor should not have said you'd be in remission until God knows when. No one can predict that, especially since treatments usually 'wear off'. You could have an acute case, but it's too soon to tell.

People that are on constant treatment are doing that because counts won't stay up without treatment. If yours do, you don't need to treat.

I think your follow-up should have been a bit sooner, but since it isn't, call his office if you start to have bruises or bleeding. Many people monitor themselves by symptoms.
