Sandi, as I recall you've had two Rituxan treatments. Obviously there must have been an ITP relapse after the first. Curious. Between the first and the second treatments, did you start avoiding gluten in your diet? What's the timeline on that?

So I've been totally gluten free for about 2 1/2 weeks. Since I never had any digestive issues from the celiac and from eating gluten, I feel no different. My platelet counts continue to rise and fall weekly, by about 20-30 each time: 93, 68, 82, 109, 70, 91.... The past 7 weeks have all been above 50 so I'm not complaining. I'm down to 5 mg prednisone and haven't had any withdrawal symptoms yet.

Hal:

I had four Rituxan infusions in 2003 and had 13 months treatment free. I had one infusion at that point and have been in remission since. I did not cut gluten out of my diet back then because I didn't believe in a diet connection. I do now.

Thanks for that Sandi. On the bright side, one never knows. Staying away from gluten may have helped keep you in remission for so long.

My weekly numbers continue to go up and down. Since I stopped the gluten 100% I've gone from 90 to 95 to 86 to 78. I'm glad I'm above 50, which is my goal. I'm still hanging with the 5 mg of prednisone and haven't had any withdrawal issues. I feel fine, (other than getting some petechiae when I scratched my arm for 2 seconds. THAT's attractive!) I'm going to give it some more time, of course, but it's very difficult to bypass pizza and peanut butter toast!
