Newly Diagnosed and Prednisone Side Effects?

I was diagnosed 1 month ago after a platelet count of 7. I've been on 75mg of Prednisone for the past month and my count as of 2 days ago was 172. My hematologist has started me on the weaning off process so starting yesterday I am now on 30 mg of Prednisone for the next month, then 25 for the following month and so on. I am pleasantly surprised that have not really experienced any harsh side effects of Prenisone. I was expecting a moonface, ravenous hunger, weight gain, but none of that has happened. However, I am extremely tired and the only other thing I am experiencing is a tightness in my chest. This tightness started about a week after starting Prednisone. Is this a side effect others have experienced? Or should I be more concerned that it is something else?

You were dropped from 75 to 30? That's a very fast taper. A taper of more than half the dose can cause withdrawal side effects and a platelet drop. I hope that doesn't happen to you. When is your next count?

Yes, tightness in the chest can be a side effect. If it becomes uncomfortable though, get it checked out.

It can take a while for side effects to appear, but there are a few who get lucky enough to not experience them.
