Hello. I'm Robert...44 years old. It was nice to find this support group. On April 25th I went in for a checkup and some blood work. Admittingly, it had been awhile since I had been to a Dr. Anyway, on that blood test, I was told that my platelets were low. 104 on that test. So, my Dr wanted me to re-test. I did about a week later. The result of that was 96. So, my Dr wanted me to have a consultation with a hematologist. Being told about the platelets....I, of course, did some research online. And, saw some potentially scary stuff about having low platelets. It seemed to be all happening so fast. Went in for a checkup...thought I was really healthy ...and, all of a sudden having to have a consultation with a hematologist. Worried. Anxious. Stressed. Not sleeping restfully. I finally got in to see the hematologist last Fri. Had another set of blood work done. My count there was 111. Went back and saw him yesterday after all of my blood results came back. He does think it is ITP. I do have a high IPF and some large platelets. All my other blood test results were normal. So, he's going to monitor it for awhile. I've read many others on here that have counts much lower. So, I do feel relieved that mine is kinda a 'safe' number. Hopefully, this is just the 'normal' for me. But, it sure has been a worrisome few weeks. I'm glad I found this support group. Reading some of the posts has been a big source of help.

I'm not sure how much I'll get online. I'm not a super big computer person. But, it's nice to know this group is here. If anyone ever wants to talk, vent, rant, etc...feel free to text me. 602-677-7035. I know it can be a scary time. We are all in this because of a common reason and I just want to be some support to as many as possible however I can. Or whenever. So, really.....feel free to text and say Hi...or, for some support and encouragement. Thank you to all of you and this support group.

Have a good night.
Robert

Robert:

You're right, your counts are quite good and those numbers just might be the normal for you. Your counts could have been in that range for many years and you were just fine, so finding out doesn't really change anything. The criteria for an ITP diagnosis has recently changed to 'counts consistently below 100k' and you've mostly been above that.

I'm glad you found us....we are here anytime you need us.

Hi Robert - I'm trying to recall what my HMOs lab calls it when my count is around yours, think the word mild is in it.

You are doing great - stay that way!

Personally I think you should edit your post & profile and remove your phone number for people to text you - one does not have to be a member here to see threads so any quack/weirdo out there is going to get that number. If you were my child I'd ground you for putting it out there ;)
