Just Diagnosed - Question about Follow-Ups

I'm new to the world of ITP and am so glad to have found this resource!

I was just diagnosed and have been presenting low platelet levels for over 2 years. No treatment is required at this point and the hematologist has me coming in every 6 months for new counts - just wondering how often others are having their levels monitored? I want to be safe, but I dread going - serious phobia!!

What are your counts?

Six months is probably okay, but if you have symptoms you'd need to call and get a CBC. Symptoms include excess bruising, bleeding gums, nose bleeds, petechiae or blood in urine.

Don't worry! :) ITP can be managed and life can be normal.

They were between 70 - 80 for a while, then 95 & now 61. Was hoping that since I haven't presented with very low levels and I have no other symptoms, I could stretch out the visits!

Thanks!

Ha, six months is stretched out. I get that ignorance is bliss, but six months isn't bad. The longer you are stable, the longer you can go between visits.

At one point, I was running stable 50-70 counts for maybe three years straight and getting checked every 3 months. When it dipped into teens-20s, checks were stepped up to once a month.
I think your doctor is being generous and wouldn't fight him about a 6-month schedule.
