Feeling crazy

Feeling crazy was created by Trishyrae
I am new to all this and was wondering if anyone else felt like they were going crazy. I am not on any treatments so that can't be why but I feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster. I am a pretty patient person being a preschool teacher and all but it seems like the littlest things set me off lately. One minute I'm irritated with my family over the littlest thing( they look at me like I'm crazy) and then I get upset and cry over nothing. I was wondering if this could be a side effect or if it's just stress from the recent diagnosis.

Trish:

Feeling emotional is not a symptom of ITP. It is more than likely a result of the emotions that can go along with a diagnosis. Most people do feel stressed in that situation, especially at first. You don't know what to expect and your life has been invaded with uncertainty.

The good part is that you are not treating and do not have to deal with side effects. That is when things can get even worse. It's possible that you may never have to treat and this could all just go away. Try to focus on the positive. For most people, ITP is just a pain in the butt and an inconvenience. It can take time to see it that way. Life goes on after an ITP diagnosis and nearly everyone lives a completely normal life, even if they do have to treat.

Hi There!
I was diagnosed in September and have been experiencing similar emotions. I find that I am much more weepy than I ever was.
It helps to talk to others experiencing this. I have also relied on my faith more than ever.
It's good that you are stable enough to not treat. Some of the meds are tough. Although I was very frightened to have rituxan, I did go through the treatment in January and found it uneventful.
Good luck
Joanne

Last check they were at 57. So not bad at all. They have been dropping between 8-10 a month since Dr. noticed it in November. Next check in three days. I have only been diagnosed since end of January.

Trish,

Is there any possibility that another condition might be causing the mood swings? Thyroid problems can cause mood swings. So can Cushing's syndrome (which can also cause bruising and low platelets). Do you have any other symptoms that might indicate something else is going on? Weight change, for example? I would share any concerns with your doctor, to be sure.

Trishyrae you are right 57k isn't bad - I hope the dropping trend will stop and you will level out at a good count. Your doctor sounds like a good one, he didn't go into a panic as some here have said theirs do.

I've got thyroid problems and my moods don't swing - you know you were just diagnosed with ITP and you need to come to terms with that. Let your doctor know how you are feeling and maybe just talking with him will help. And we are here to talk to - ok?

Be sure to let us know what your next count is.

I know before I was diagnosed, I was very fatigued, & that caused some emotions to come to the surface easily, because I didn't know what was going on. My count was at 8 then.

Trish,

You should ask for a check of your vitamin D levels. There is an association between onset of ITP (as well as other autoimmune diseases) and vitamin D deficiency, which in turn is associated with fatigue and depression (among other things).

I will have to talk to Dr. About vit. D. Thank you.

I have been so tired the past three days. More than I have ever been. Also popped up with three blood blisters in mouth. Got cbc today but waiting on results. At what point should I call Dr. ? I feel like I'm just being paranoid.

You know your body - you should call the doctor when you feel you should. When do you get the CBC results - new blood blisters don't sound good. Look at the quote at the bottom of this - I think that says it all. I'd go in.

Woo hoo just got results platelets at 100. Still can't figure out why I am so tired and just got blood spots in mouth.
Does anyone know what 1PMV blood means? It's my only other count that's off. Thanks for everyone's info.

It's the Mean Platelet Volume and it measures size. Most people with ITP have large platelets (reticulated, new). That's normal and doesn't mean anything.

I don't know why you'd have blood blisters either. Your count is great! Maybe you're tired from the stress of worrying. It can take a toll.

Your counts are great. I live with numbers at or around 100 and don't consider my platelet count to be a significant issue in my life. There's a tendency to blame everything on ITP. But lots of conditions can cause fatigue and bleeding issues. I hope your physician is listening to you regarding such issues and ruling in/out other possibilities. I assume you've had a thyroid function test, just to pick one issue that can play a role in what you've mentioned. Of course, managing stress and making certain to get high-quality sleep is vital, too.

  • ITP since 2014. Retired nurse. My belief is empower patients to be involved as much as possible in their care. Read, read, read & ALWAYS question medics about the evidence base they use.
