Body aches associated with ITP?

Body aches associated with ITP? was created by Cherri72
I was recently diagnosed with ITP with my platelets running 70 to 84. My main concern is the severe leg pains along with pain in the underarm/shoulder area that makes me want to crawl out of my own skin. With the pain I have large bumps that are very sore to the touch. I am being tested thru primary care physician for other things before he will refer me to rheumatologist. I wanted to know if anyone with ITP suffered with this type of pain or if I am looking at possible lupus.

Thanks

Hi Cherri!

I would say that is not ITP related.

What sort of bumps; where are they?

Describe the leg and arm pain a bit more.

I don't remember ever specifically reading about large painful bumps being a symptom of Lupus, but then pretty much anything can be a symptom so I wouldn't rule that out.

I saw one of those Mystery Diagnosis shows with similar symptoms and it turned out to be a pancreatic tumor. It doesn't sound like ITP at all and I've not heard of anything like that with lupus.

That doesn't sound like it's related to ITP. I've never had anything like that since I was diagnosed. I hope you can get it resolved soon.

Hi Cherri,

Thrombocytopenia is only called ITP if there is no other cause, and it is assumed to be auto-immune.
Low platelets can have MANY causes, and since you have other symptoms, it is best to look at all of the possibilities and not jump to any conclusions. Your PCP is doing the right thing to rule out the other possibilities before referring you to a rheumatologist or a hematologist.

I had serious body aches to the point I was curled up in bed all day, but I do believe that was a side effect of prednisone 100mg. Acne was also a bad side effect, but sounds like you should investigate further.

I am a male with ITP and I have flank pain on the left side of my body, mainly my left hip. Left leg sore to the touch and dull aches and pains.
