I wonder if anyone here has had issues or found small like bruises. These don't look like purpura rash etc.
My count was 128 two weeks ago and I get these small not tiny not even 1/2 cm they appear on arms and legs and I've had about 4 now they appear as light blue almost colour of veins then straightaway they turn to purple and they then go in about 2 days very strange. Was on Prednisone been off for a month now. So not sure. Thought they were like blood vessels bursting? I know Prednisone can make your skin thin but these are odd. I took a pic so will ask doc on Tuesday when I go for blood test.

It is purpura. Petechiae are the smaller pinhead sized red dots and purpura a bit larger and more purple coloured. Ecchymoses are even larger purple areas that we tend to just call bruises. It's all the same bleeding under the skin, just the size varies. I have counts in the 80s just now and get them too.

Thanks Ann. They change colour so quickly like from blue to purple then fade. So strange to get them when counts are relatively high but then there's the worry that counts have dropped so that's why they appear. I guess you don't worry about them ?

I always have the red pin sized marks, then out of the blue clusters of purple which fade to an ugly yellow bruising on my legs and arms. I was just 'officially' diagnosed June 9th but this has been happening for years. Thanks for bringing this topic up. Also, thanks to Ann I didn't realize the difference between all of the names. My counts have been falling rapidly since my phlebotomy in March. I also have secondary polycythemia.

Fiona, I don't worry about them. I'll get a count done if and when I get blood blisters in the mouth because then I'll know that my count is under 5. Until then I will leave well alone.

Kathleen I guess as newly diagnosed we need time and time to see what signs we get that are linked to our counts that way if you get a certain sign and its linked to a drop in platelets then we know perhaps to get tested. I am lucjy as i still get monitored every 2 weeks. It definitely makes it less stressful to know they are keeping an eye on me. Iv never had the red rash or purple rash only like 1 tiny small light blue mark which turns to purple in a few hours then shrinks and fades within 2 days. I went onto google to see pics there are of red and purple rashes none of small bruises but it explains it all there aswell. Are u on treatements?
