I took my last steroid pill today. Hallelujah. CBC still at 350,000. I thought the doctor would say to go a month without a test. They had to stick me 3 times to get blood today. sometimes it has been 4 times! I was looking forward to the end of that business. It has been 4 1/2 months since my ITP event. For the last 4 I have had platelet counts generally between 300 and 350, once 407, once 233,000 but that was with clumping. Don't you think I should be able to go a month before I retest??

Do what you want, it is your body - but maybe they are going to make sure that since you are off prednisone now that your platelets don't crash and you have another ITP event. Never know what can happen once off prednisone.

Do you know you posted this in the News & Suggestions section?

Good luck to you, hope you never have another ITP event in your life!

Congratulations on getting off of prednisone :).

In the past when my counts have been like that my doc has gone to monthly then every 3 months then 6 months.

Weekly seems like too much where you have been stable on very little prednisone. Why don't you ask the doc for his reasoning for weekly counts and ask if you can wait.

My counts have been stable for a few weeks now, and my hematologist said that I can wait a month to get my blood drawn instead of weekly now. I wish you good luck. I'm glad your counts are stable. Congrats on getting off of prednisone. I can't wait until I'm off of it.

Diagnosed: August 2013, lowest count 2k.
Treatments: IVIG, Prednisone, transfusions.
Current Count: 233k, 12/23/2013.
Currently: Watching/waiting.
