Just diagnosed when taken by ambulance from doctor to hospital due to a zero platelet count. I stayed in hospital for 4 days on steroids, and IGG bags. Let out on Friday on prednisone 90 mg and a platelet count of 76. Still cause searching , any advice?

Read everything on this website! That's the best advice.

Then get a good hematologist familiar with ITP to make sure your doctor isn't over-reacting and is following the best and newest practices.

Are you having any bleeding symptoms, or were you?

I started having bruising, bleeding from mouth, mouth sores, and bleeding from cuts. Also blood in urine and stool.

Sounds like a good and successful intervention then, some scary symptoms. Now the next step is to work with a smart doctor to monitor and plan how to treat as needed.

Jodynik,

Sorry to hear about your introduction to ITP :( I agree with Erica - the best thing to do is READ READ READ and make sure to find a Hematologist that KNOWS ITP. The right Doctor can make all the difference in treating or not.

There are several ITPers here that have a lot of great advise and I am sure you will find many answers here.

Keep us posted.

Jodynik!

Welcome to "us"! :) It sounds like your doc did you well. Read everything you can find on this website. Knowledge is power and comforting. You will go through several phases, scared, mad, and worried were my biggies. It gets better! Talk about it, and learn. Relax and do your normal stuff, don't fret!

The ladies that have posted on here have a wealth of knowledge and will help however they can, they are just great! From my personal experience the info I get here is just as good as I get anywhere else, including my docs!

Nice to meet you! You will be fine! You have new friends!
